We are in the second half of third grade. Please encourage your child to continue taking responsibility for their homework and planner. They should have a quiet area and designated time for homework to develop good study habits. Be proactive in establishing this NOW, rather than reactive LATER when your child enters middle school.
THANK YOU!
3rd grade thanks Mrs. Blanton for donating pretzels and gummies for our science model of the backbone. Yummy!
Thanks to all who attended Catholic Schools Week kick off Mass. We received many compliments on the students’ beautiful singing.
Thanks to all who made Teacher Appreciation Day special with gifts and goodies.
Other News
Our field trip to the Art Museum is set for Friday, March 26. We will leave after Mass, so students will wear uniforms for the trip. You are more than welcome to chaperone. We will have a docent led tour for an hour, and then students will be allowed to browse the galleries with chaperones.
Subjects
Religion---Students will explore how the Church is holy (the second Mark of the Catholic Church).
Math---To increase our cognitive skills, we will begin to work some logic puzzles and arrange tangrams as warm ups to our lessons. Practice in multi-digit addition and subtraction will be reviewed three times weekly. Worksheets will be sent home.English---The children are getting very good at finding and using verbs. We will move on to the verb tenses and subject/verb agreement.
Social Studies---The wagon train is moving quite well and we are about one-third of the way to Oregon. We will have a Pioneer Day to celebrate our arrival in Oregon (date to be determined). Your child can dress up in pioneer clothes and we will share a trail meal. In geography, we will continue learning the states and capitals, so keep practicing! The students will continue using maps to get information.
Science---Our focus is learning about plants and animals and how they survive and interact with each other. The students made a model of a backbone last week, and will participate in a camouflage observation, and a predator/prey activity in the upcoming month.
Reading---Your child is participating in Reading Plus, which assesses and increases silent reading fluency and comprehension. We do this 2x a week at school. Your child can log on at home by going to www.readingplus.com/users. The site code is: sapadua. They know their login and passwords. Also, we are working on oral reading fluency. Information will be sent home this week in the yellow folder. This only takes 1 minute per night (Tue/Wed/Thu), so please help!
