EARTH SCIENCE:

8th Grade is finishing a study on the layers of the atmosphere, which involves weather observations while learning about air pressure and air quality. We definitely have had a variety of weather to observe.

7th Grade is in the process of building an earthquake resistant building that we will test, modify the structure, and retest. They have been studying how seismographs detect ground movement, the types of waves created by earthquakes, and the scales used to measure them. Our lab will allow us to locate an epicenter by applying data with a map.

LIFE SCIENCE:

6th Grade is studying the secret of silk. This is a unit study that crosses several subject areas. They will learn about the Silk Road and its importance in trade. The metamorphosis of the silkworm and Chinese myths about the Goddess of the Silkworm are a few of the elements in this unit.

5th Grade is finishing their project for genetics. They each created a paper pet with certain characteristics. Then by pairing up their pets they created Punnett squares to determine what offspring the parent generation might have and what characteristics the offspring would inherit depending on recessive and dominant genes. Then they created their offspring paper pets. They are on display in the hall.
