A Note from Home and School
November 6, 2008
Dear Parents-
Several important things have been decided at the last Home and School Meeting that you should be aware of. First, this summer, Home and School was made aware that we can no longer give tuition reimbursement for the SCRIP Program. That was explained at the meeting in August. This is a nationwide thing because it is using non- profit status to benefit a few members. So, at the last meeting in October it was decided by the majority, that money from Scrip will fund, first the Pro-Life trip (if needed) and then fully fund the field trips starting next year. This was discussed and voted on at the last meeting. We really hope that parents will continue using SCRIP because it will benefit the kids and our school. If you have ideas on how else the $ should be used, I invite you to come to a Home and School meeting to be heard.
Thank you,
Cathy Boero H&S President
EMERGENCY DATA FORMS
An emergency data form must be completed for each student who attends St. Anthony School. This includes important telephone numbers, after-school caretakers, individuals who may pick-up your child/children, and procedures to be taken during an emergency. Parents must keep this information updated for the safety of their children.
STUDENT DIRECTORY
Each year a directory is assembled containing the student's name, grade, parents' names, address, and telephone number. This year we will, also, include your e-mail address. These directories are distributed to students, faculty, and staff. If you do not want this information or any part of it included, please inform the school in writing.
The address of the student's primary residence will be included in the directory. If other addresses should be included, please inform the school.
NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM
Free and reduced lunch assistance is available for those who qualify. If you have questions about this program, please contact Sister Joann. All information completed on the form is highly confidential and all identities are strictly protected.
LUNCH
Lunch is available everyday to all the students. School lunch is $2.00 per day. Money should be sent the first day of each week for meals that will be eaten that week. Meals are to be paid for in advance so that meal accounts are kept current and accurate. When a student brings lunch, milk can be purchased for 35¢.
BIRTHDAY TREATS
Striving to adhere to, and continuing to implement our wellness policy, we are requesting that birthday treats contain less sugar content. We are encouraging parents to bring more nutritious treats for the children. Suggestions are: fruits, fruit snacks, ice cream, sherbert, milk, fruit popsicles, popcorn, veggies and dip, granola bars, etc. These are only a few ideas to help you in creating some nutritious snacks for the children.
TUITION AND CURRICULUM FEES
This year we will continue to use the FACTS payment plan for tuition. Tuition will be billed twelve months beginning June 1st until the last day of school in May. All tuition must be paid by the last day of school; report cards will not be forwarded unless all payments are current. A fees sheet for the 2008-2009 school year is included. A one-time yearly curriculum fee ($120.00) is due by the last day of the previous school year to assist us in paying our school bills during the summer months.
BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
This fall St. Anthony School will again offer before and after care for students. Before care hours will begin at 6:00 AM and end at 7:30 AM; after care hours will run from 3:15-6:00 PM. Registration forms are enclosed and should be submitted on August 17 or 18th.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you drop your child off before 7:30 AM. he/she will be placed in the Before Care Program, and charges will be applied. In the event that you are late picking up your child (after 3:15 PM), he/she will be placed with the After Care Program. These students will be allowed to drop in only one time before the registration fee and hour of service will be assessed.
MEDICATION GUIDELINES
According to State and Archdiocesan guidelines, the school cannot distribute medication without the authorization of your physician. This includes any over-the-counter medications. Information from our Health Aide, Miss Tammy, has been enclosed in your packet.
CHILD ABUSE FORMS
Anyone wishing to attend a field trip, volunteer at school, or assist with any type of school activity must complete three steps:
1. Have a Child Abuse Form on file with the parish. This form is required to protect the students at St. Anthony School. A $9.00 fee and a copy of your social security card must accompany the form.
2. Attend a "Protecting God's Children Workshop". One of these workshops will be offered at St. Anthony School on August 12, 2008, from 6:30-9:00 PM. Additional workshops are available; please see the enclosed brochure. 3. Read, sign, and return the commitment from of the Archdiocese of St. Louis Code of Ethical Conduct for Clergy, Employees, and Volunteers Working with Minors. These form are available in the office. UNIFORMS
Uniforms are worn in all Grades K-8. The uniforms worn at St. Anthony can be purchased through the local suppliers: Dickey Bub Shop and Sports Image. A black, brown, or dark blue belt is considered part and parcel of the uniform. Students who do not wear a belt will be considered "out-of-uniform".
"Students are expected to dress and present an appearance consistent with standards of good taste and appropriate for school and school events. Any dress or wearing of insignia which conveys the image of gang membership, support the beliefs of hate groups, makes sexual innuendoes, or promotes drugs, alcohol, or tobacco is inappropriate for school and will not be allowed". (Archdiocesan Policy: Dress and Grooming 4303.6)
INCLEMENT WEATHER
Cancellation of school due to inclement weather will be announced on KTUI 101 FM, 1560 AM, KSDK Channel 5, and KMOV Channel 4 as early as possible. A decision about early dismissal during the day will be announced on KTUI. No student will be permitted to walk home without a parent or an assigned adult coming to walk with them. Additional information concerning inclement weather can be found in the handbook.
PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK
All families received a new Parent/Student Handbook last year; therefore, new families only will receive the handbook for the 2008-2009 school year. However, all families will receive the "Changes, Additions, and Deletions" to the handbook; they are included in this packet of information. These Changes, Additions, and Deletions will become effective on August 18, 2008; all has been approved by the School Board.
